Camp Counsellor Packing List

Camp Counsellor Packing List

Packing for camp was difficult.. Having very little 'summer' clothes or any clothes that aren't black for that matter wasn't helpful. Before going to camp we were sent a packing list of the typical items we would need during camp including the obvious shorts, t-shirts etc but there were a few things I should have taken that I didn't realise I would need or use so much. for example, I had never owned a pair of shorts in my life before going to camp so I assumed taking 2 pairs would be fine as I didn't plan on wearing them. However, arriving at camp and not being able to suffer my jeans past the first day I bought a hell of a lot more on my first day off along with various other items that I lived in at camp and after while travelling. Walmart was a life saver.. 3 pairs of Walmart's finest 99c flip flops and multiple $5 mens tshirts saw me through 2 months of camp. Apart from clothes I made sure I packed a notebook to document my travels and time at camp. I love keeping business cards for places I have eaten, tickets to places I have visited and so on. I also with I had taken a shower caddy. Before camp I had no idea what that was and lugging shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shaver etc to the showers every day and attempting to hold a towel around myself was difficult so that's one thing i would really recommend either taking with you or buying once you're over. I didn't take enough tshirts, so every day off I had I bought a new tshirt from the places we visited for memory's sake to be practical. I went to camp with only one swimming costume and wearing it daily made it nearly fall apart.

There are things I wish I hadn't taken like so many pairs of jeans making my case heavy for travelling after camp, hair curlers that didn't even work with the different voltage in America, so many long sleeve tops that I barely wore because it was far too hot, a jacket taking up spare and weight in my case that I never wore... At the end of camp I emptied my case and threw away clothes I knew I wouldn't wear again to keep some space for bringing souvenirs back to Scotland. An american phone charger would have been really beneficial as my plug is already huge and adding an adaptor onto the end of it made it really heavy and difficult to charge my phone.
